🏫 Shapiro Wants to Send $31 Million More to Delco Schools
Governor Shapiro dropped his proposed 2026–27 budget this week, and Delaware County school districts stand to gain nearly $31 million in additional state education funding if it goes through.
The money covers three buckets: basic education, special education, and Ready to Learn Block Grants. The increases vary by district, but a few stand out. Wallingford-Swarthmore would see the largest basic education bump at $468,468. Interboro gets the biggest percentage boost at 1.5%. And William Penn — the district that won the landmark school funding lawsuit but still faces a $9.2 million deficit, as we covered Friday — would receive an additional $300,913 in special education funding, the highest in the county.
Statewide, Shapiro is proposing nearly $900 million more for pre-K through 12th grade, including a $565 million increase in adequacy funding aimed at closing the gap between wealthy and underfunded districts.
It's a proposal, not a done deal — it still has to survive the legislature. But for districts that have been stretching every dollar, this is the most encouraging budget headline in years.
🚨 Radnor School Employee Arrested by U.S. Marshals
Michael Robinson, 43, a Radnor School District employee, was arrested last Thursday in the 200 block of Windermere Avenue by the U.S. Marshals Service and Radnor Township police. He faces charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child in Texas stemming from an incident in August 2024.
Robinson was indicted by the Smith County (Texas) District Attorney's Office in December 2025 after allegedly traveling to Tyler, Texas to meet a juvenile he had contacted online. Radnor Police Superintendent Chris Flanagan urged students and parents to reach out to the department if they witness or are aware of any criminal activity.
🏥 A New Hospital Is Almost Ready in Aston

Here's some good news for southern Delaware County: ChristianaCare's $50 million micro-hospital in Aston is on track to open in June.
The facility, at Dutton Mill Road and Turner Industrial Way, will have 10 emergency department beds and 10 inpatient beds, with an outpatient health center on the second floor following in October. It's designed to serve about 15,000 patients annually.
If you've been following the Crozer Health collapse, you know how badly this part of the county needs healthcare access. This won't replace everything Crozer was, but it's a significant step — and it's months away from opening its doors.

⚖️ Gladwyne Man Sentenced to Over 9 Years for Defrauding Investors
Josh Verne, 48, formerly of Gladwyne, was sentenced to 111 months in federal prison last week for a fraud scheme that bilked dozens of investors out of millions of dollars.
The victim list reads like a who's who of the Philadelphia business world — Sixers co-owner David Adelman, Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin, among others. Verne pitched them on promising tech startups. Instead, their money went to private jets, country club memberships, and personal expenses. He also faces forfeiture of more than $12 million. The kind of story that sounds like a Netflix docuseries — except it happened right here on the Main Line.
